Methodologically characterized as bibliographic and documental, presents as theme an analysis of discourses regarding the indigenous indoctrination conducted by two big ideological formations in the beginning of the Republic: the catholic ideals of the salesianmission and, in the opposite, the positive republican march, having in the figure of Cândido Mariano daSilva Rondon a notorious protagonist, incharge of the Commission Rondon and of the indigenous policies. The reflection about such context based itself on enunciate and analytical categories, such as the triad theme / composition / style, the conceptofexotopy, authorship, among other Bakhtinian suppositions, centralizing it on the gathering of excerpts of the catholic newspaper of Mato Grosso The Cross: the institution of the Brazilian Catholic Social League of Mato Grosso (A Cruz: órgão da LigaSocial Catholica Brazileira de Matto-Grosso), from 1910 to 1920, provided by the HemerotecaDigitalLibraryof the Nacional Library Foundation. The corpus of analysis, besidesthenewspaper, gathersotherfragmentsofauthorshipofRondonand allies in the senseofbetterillustratingthearenaofthesocialvoicesthatinterpenetratethat chronotopic focus.Theeffortoftheresearchwasin the sense of responding the question of how the insertion of the indigenous in the capitalist society was conceived intheFirst Republic. The response to such problem referred to the main objective: reflect, with emphasis on Rondon, about the complexity of that context in which the positivist ideologyaimed to purge the presence of the church, especially in relation to the catechism of the indigenous people. As specific objectives, are listed: expatiate on the genres of discourse, concepts of the theory of enunciation of the “Bakhtin Circle” and how they impact on the sphere of journalist production; describe relevant aspects of the historical pathof Rondon and his affiliation to Positivism; characterize the assumptions more significant to the adversary ideologies: the republican positivism and the ultra mount Catholicism; analyze with the enunciative and dialogic theory the statements of the catholic newspaper of Mato Grosso The Cross, highlighting the meanings and judgements directed by the salesian enunciation, as well as those of opposite authorship. The theoretical frame to subsidize such goals reveals centrality in the writings of Bakhtin (2011), Bakhtin/Volochínov (2014), in addition, it is drawn on Brait (2016),Rodrigues(2001),Bigio(2000),Carvalho (2017), among others. The research, in conclusion, presents inferences about the nature of the historical character Rondon, whose complexity extends due to his protagonism in the indigenous context. It was observed thatarticlesofopinion and editorials, although not always havingtheexplicit objective of guiding thepointofviewof the reader, in a way to reproduce a monologic discourse, do reveal a dialogical nature perceptiblein the volitional-axiologicalrelations established with the unrelated voices. Journalistic genres like those ones can offer stimulating tools to the comprehension of historical and cultural phenomena, among them Education, for being sowed to social voices, due to its enunciative nature. The conflict between the catholic ideology and the positivism, in the origin of republican Brazil, gained concrete shapes with the question of the salesian missionaries and Rondon; with the theoretical choices made here, that context revealed itself a powerful ground of research, for what they can produce of new meanings, not always legitimized by the hegemonic discourses, especially the official and school ones.
