Resumo
Scientific research has an impact on the search for sustainable
improvements in the agricultural production system. Thus, the objective was to
evaluate the performance of an expandable polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride
container for studies on biological soil decompression. The experiment was carried out
in a greenhouse, at the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, Campus Rondonópolis,
from November 2019 to January 2020. The soil used was collected in an area under
Cerrado vegetation, in the 0-0.20 m layer. The experimental design was completely
randomized, in five replications, with five levels of soil density (1.0; 1.2; 1.4; 1.6 and
1.8 Mg m-3
) and two types of pots (Polychloride Vinyl - PVC and expandable
Polyurethane - PU). The PVC experimental unit was assembled with three 200 mm
inner diameter and 100 mm high rings, joined with “silver tape”. The expandable
polyurethane treatments were made from a mold for application of the compound
around the previously compacted soil layers, of equal volume to those of the PVC pot,
and later wrapped in formica. The 100 mm lower and upper soil layers of the pots were
filled with soil at a density of 1.0 Mg m-3 and the intermediate soil layer according to
each density of the experimental treatment. The evaluation of the performance of the
container was carried out indirectly by means of the response culture (forage radish),
which evaluated the variable number of leaves, plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll
index (SPAD index), dry mass of the aerial part, root dry mass, total dry mass, root
volume, root diameter, root length and shoot/root ratio. The experimental data were
submitted to analysis of variance. The increase in soil density influences the
development of forage radish and the container used interferes with the development
of the root system of the crop. The expandable polyurethane vase proved to be more
suitable for the study of biological decompression compared to the PVC vase.
