The cowpea is being considered one of the most important
specie in the country, because it has components essential to food and
outstanding features for its cultivation, for example, symbiosis capacity with
diazotrophs. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculation associated
with soil compaction on growth, development and production of copra. The
experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the University of Mato Grosso,
Rondonópolis. The treatments arranged in a factorial 3 x 2 corresponded to
the BR3267 strain (recommended for cowpea) and the combination of strains
MT8 and MT15 (isolated from cowpea lures plants) and a control (nitrogen150 fertilizer mg dm3
) in soil uncompressed and compressed (1.60 kg cm-3
).
The compression was performed using a hydraulic press, applied to the soil
of the central region of a column formed by overlapping three PVC pipe 150
mm in diameter. The Each treatment consisted of six repetitions, for a total of
36 experimental plots. The variables analyzed were planted height, stem
diameter, chlorophyll index, the dry mass of shoot / root dry weight, number
of pods, beans per pod and number of nodes, pod length, number of grains,
pasta dry beans, the shoots, roots and nodules and nitrogen concentration in
the aerial part and grains and crude protein of shoots and grain. The results
showed that compression did not affect the plant height, stem diameter, pod
length, number of seeds per pod and concentration of the shoot and grain.
However variables: number of pods and nodules, dry mass of grains, shoots,
roots and nodules were influenced when subjected to the density of 1.60 kg
dm-3
. The coupe inoculated with rhizobia strains showed better development
in non-compacted soil.
