Reclamation project management is deficient in the state of Mato
Grosso, Brazil. This study attempted to outline an overview of the methodology
employed in these projects and the basic demands made by professionals, in
design and management information generated for PRAD’s implementation.
Techniques opinions from environmental recovery professionals were obtained
through interviews and an online extension course about reclamation projects.
In all, 24 technicians between interviews and extension course participants
were surveyed. In addition, we analyzed 57 PRADs designed to rural
properties located in Alto Araguaia city, Mato Grosso. Interviews showed that in
PRAD preparation stage, reported data usually follows a pre-established and
synthetic model, similar to each other, mainly when it explained technical
justifications of methodologies election and description of the environmental
assessment relating to damaged areas and degradation process. As demands
mentioned by interviewed professionals, we observed a need for more detailed
roadmaps oriented to technical leaders and landowners to help them in
conducting project activities. In monitoring stage, data needs to be managed in
order to identify and correct process failures to better match future proposals,
through PDCA cycle methodology. Nevertheless, this discussion would require
greater cooperation between professionals, technicians inspecting agencies,
academics and landowners in socializes outcomes of different PRADs, which
could promote technical and scientific improvement into ecological restoration.
