The present research analyzes the representations of the feminine in the american animation
"Adventure Time" (2010), being this the source of research created by animator Pendleton
Ward, directed by Larry Leichliter, produced by the studios Cartoon Network Studios and
Frederator Studios. The animation is displayed on the television channel Cartoon Network™,
closing production in 2018 and totaling 10 seasons. For the research, the first season and the
two characters Bubblegum Princess and Lumpy Space Princess, as research object, to be
analyzed from some plans and scenes. The narrative of animation is about the protagonists
Finn and Jake, respectively a boy and his dog, who adventure by the "Land of Ooo", postapocalyptic scenario that is divided in several kingdoms. Most of female representations are
princesses of these different realms, therefore, how they are constructed and what senses they
may have for the narrative are the focus of research. Because it is a media product, the
animation is based on cultural studies, reflecting on the relationship between culture and
media as pedagogical tools. The study points to "Adventure Time" differences of femininity
between the princesses, presenting elements that subvert the classic representations of
princesses, like those created and consecrated by Disney studios, while frail women who
dream of getting married and having a life with a "happy ending". However, it is also possible
to realize reproductions of stereotypes at some point in the narrative and reflect to what extent
the representations analyzed here are subverting or retaining the classical idea of what it is to
be a princess in animation. For this, the research is not limited only to narrative and context of
production, but it is emphasized the role of the language in the animation and the and the
assembly of plans and scenes that can contribute to the affirmations of the senses built. In the
conclusion, the analyzes of the animations are pointed out, especially because they are not
innocently constructed, even when they are media product for the purpose of entertainment
for children and youth. Therefore, we consider it important to analyze these sources that carry
multiple meanings and representations of certain social groups acting as a form of pedagogy
aimed at a specific audience.
